When Miwa and Christian reached out to me about doing a maternity shoot in Yosemite I was stoked! Having grown up near the park, I’ve been to Yosemite about 100 times. Every time is incredible and jaw dropping, but this venture in was pretty special. Thanks to COVID (you don’t hear that too often), I walked around the valley with a member of the Ahwahneechee tribe, having it almost completely to ourselves. She told me stories and showed me her ancestral ground and it was epic! Her grandfather was the last Indian to live in Yosemite!
Miwa and Christian’s daughter is so lucky not just to have such awesome parents but to have ones who understand the importance of knowing your history and passing on traditions and languages so that they don’t get lost forever. HANDS DOWN my favorite maternity shoot EVER! I feel so lucky to have a job where I get to meet and spend time with people from so many different backgrounds and cultures and learn more about their lives.
